Marché (pronounced Mar-shay), which means “market” in French, is a creative, colorful and innovative restaurant concept developed by the Swiss-based Mövenpick Group.

It’s something like a buffet, but it’s not eat-all-you-can style, you get a ‘passport’ which you stamp as you take food and then pay for at the end (PLEASE don’t lose the passport as it’ll cost you RM200!).

Yes we do eat at The Curve a lot, but we haven’t even covered a quarter of the eateries there, there’s just so many!

When you find a table you can ‘chop’ it with the sign board as you’ll be wondering around finding food, it’s a good idea.

There’s plenty to choose from with section for potatoes, mushrooms, fruit, pasta, salad, meat, pizza, desserts and much more!

It does have a very market feel with lots of fresh/raw ingredients around and plenty of things to take pictures of.

Plenty for the meat lovers amongst you too.

We started out with the fresh mushroom soup, it was pretty good and plenty of croutons!

And the Caesar salad, it still can’t beat Italiannies though.

We followed that with the Lamb Shank, which was ok – served with potatoe wedges which were nice.

And the stone baked pizza, which was good – heavy and the toppings and lovely chewy cheese.

We tried a couple of desserts, both of which looked much better than they tasted.

All in all it was ok and quite expensive, I think for the price you can find similar types of food (but much nicer) even in The Curve itself and definitely outside.

They are always packed though, so they must be doing something right..Perhaps we just missed out on the good dishes. They have a kind of buffet deal on Tuesdays too, well they used to, I’m not sure if they still do.

All in all we give it a We Ate This 5/10.

Chef Loong is another of those snack/dim sum/siu loong pau joints and it’s pretty well known around SS2. Apparently Chef Loong himself actually left to start Shanghai 10 in Bangsar! I wonder where he’s gone now as Shanghai 10 sadly seems to have closed down

You should probably know by now Xiao Long Bao is one of my favourite things to eat, and this is another place to eat them! One of the better ones too. It’s quite a popular place and it’s reasonably priced and fairly convenient being placed in SS2.

There menu is decent with a good range of crunchy stuff, fried stuff and a few refreshing dishes and of course some desserts to finish off your gluttony. It’s pretty easy to find, opposite the open air mamak area (some call it umbrellas, we refer to it as Misai – our favourite gerai there).

The interior is pretty standard, aluminum tables and chairs etc..that’s not the reason I go though, of course I go for the Xiao Long Bao (RM6 for 4).

They have a new variety now too with wine, alcoholic Xiao Long Bao! Honestly speaking though it doesn’t taste much different from the original one – it’s 50 cents more at RM6.50 for 4.

Another fav is the Crispy Netting Prawn (RM4.20) – this is delicious!

The Avacado Katafi is similar, but I can’t say I’m so fond of it. But then it is more of a desert.

The cucumber dish is delightfully refreshing amongst the fried stuff.

The Char Siew Pau are not bad.

The Crispy Chee Cheong Fun is definitely worth a try!

The desserts are all worth trying, depending on what tickles your taste buds. It is a dessert house after all. Even though the food is labeled as snacks…don’t be deceived, the portions are good and it’s quite filling. It’s perfectly ok to go there for dinner. We give it a solid We Ate This 7/10!

This is one place that’s fairly well known since long ago, before all these food blogs sprouted up. It’s one place that has also managed to retain consistency and good quality through-out its’ years in business…the down-side the price has rocketed upwards and upwards reaching RM15 for a small bowl and RM17 for a large.

I think when I first tried it was about RM8.50 and RM10 for a big one.

Anyhow, they basically serve one dish – seafood noodles! It comes in three flavours – Curry, Tom Yam and plain soup. You can campur (mix) Tom Yam and Curry too if you have an iron stomach.

It’s pretty easy to find if you know SS2 and Chow Yang area.

The interior is nice and simple, heavy marble tables and open concept and plenty of tissues for wiping your sweat and curry spattered shirt.

They hae a normal range of drinks but their Soya-bean & Cincau (Michael Jackson) is known for being very kau (Strong).

Then of course the specialty! Seafood noodles, I go for curry always as I love it, very smooth and satisfying flavour packed full of seafood. You can choose from a range of noodles, I generally go for Kway Teow + Mee.

This is the plain soup variety (small bowl) also packed full of seafood goodies.

Definitely worth trying out if you haven’t, the original branch is in Segambut of course – some people say it’s better and it’s definitely dirtier, hotter and noisier. The price is definitely a touch high and although it’s very good I don’t think it’s worth quite that much, eventhough saying that we will go back again..It gets a pretty solid We Ate This 6/10.

This is one place that has had very mixed reviews, I plan to try everywhere in SS2 though so when we were there a while back we tried to give One Noodle a go. Seen as though we are on a xiao long bao run anyway and they have La Mian (AKA Ramen) too.

It’s located in the same row as Prince Cafe (will try that one soon) and KFC. It’s under the same group as KTZ.

The ambiance is quite normal, dark wood, red walls with calligraphy etc.

They have a decent range of drinks with the usual suspects – this is the Raspberry Ribena (RM4.80), which was a little too sweet.

They have a wide range of Noodles (their speciality of course), some side dishes and a fairly good selection of Dim Sum.

The Wu Kok or Deep Fried Yam Puff (RM4.80) was very nice, it is a favourite of mine…it was probably the best dish of the day.

The Xiao Long Bao (RM6) was rather disappointing, it broke very easily, the skin was a bit thick and the soup/meat wasn’t very juicy or tasty.

The Seafood Tom Yam La Mien (RM14.80) wasn’t really great either, there was a fair amount of seafood but the Tom Yam had no real kick to it. Much better at Segambut Seafood Noodles – especially as it’s around the same price.

The Hot and Sour La Mien (RM7.80) was much better – actually worth going back for and much more reasonably priced.

Overall I don’t think we will be going back, there are many better places to eat in SS2 – I think the Schezuan style noodles at KTZ beat this hot and sour. For the style of the place and the prices the service is fairly bad too. Even when it’s quiet you can find yourself waiting for quite some time.

It has a few dishes that are not bad – but not worth traveling to eat. If you are nearby you can check it out.

We give it a not-so-great We Ate This 4/10.

This is still one of my favourite places to eat for a simple but delicious meal for a reasonable price. I got addicted to these Taiwan Pork Chop Noodles during my ‘stay’ at Horus cybercafe in SS2 – I used to eat there regularly and still make effort to go there when I can.

It’s located on the same row as Horus naturally.

It’s a simple store and the prices are reasonable, the menu isn’t vast but I only go there for one thing mainly the pork chop noodles (dry of course!). The curry chicken rice was very good too last time I had it.

And this is the business! Order it dry of course, and usually for two persons you can order an extra pork chop on the side as it’s so delicious. Crispy and tender and flavoured well, served on the bone and sliced into bite sized pieces (RM7).

The noodles are a thin fairly flat variety and silky smooth, served with some dark sauce and topped with minced meat and some spring onions.

Stir well and add a little soup to taste.

The chili they serve with it is really good, it’s not particularly spicy – I think it’s somehow fermeted..but it’s extremely tasty and goes perfectly with both the pork chop and the dumplings.

I also recommend their dumplings or “sui gau” – well packed with meat and very tasty (RM4).

They serve a good variety of fresh fruit juices (including jumbo size!) too along with the normal drinks.

If you eat around SS2 regularly and haven’t tried this place I definitely recommend checking it out!

We give it a very consistent and delicious We Ate This 8/10.

Dim Sum is something like Chinese finger food or tapas, small portions of a variety of dishes based around pork and prawns with many varieties of dumplings.

Generally steamed in bamboo containers with some deep fried variants.

A Little Dim Sum Place used to be in Hartamas some time back, I used to go there for lunch when I was working in Plaza Mon’t Kiara. Conveniently for me it’s now moved to SS2, the heart of food for Petaling Jaya.

It’s a slightly upper scale version of Dim Sum than those normal street side establishments, although for the quality of the food it’s still very reasonably priced.

One of my favourite all time Dim Sum dishes is Wu Kok or Deep fried yam puffs.

Another one of their well known dishes is the Bacon Roll – delicious real bacon…hmm.

The Char Siew Bao (Honey BBQ Pork Buns) are delicious too, the outside not too thick, light and fluffy and overflowing with juicy meaty bits.

The Chee Cheong Fun (Steamed Rice Noodle with Shrimp) is also light and not too overwhelming.

Another firm favourite is Pai Kuat or Steamed Spareribs, I eat at least 2 plates of these at any Dim Sum establishment.

The final and definiative Dim Sum dish is Lor Mai Kai or Steamed Glutinous rice, absolutely delicious. Sometimes it’s rather rich and a bit too sticky – but this one is just nice and goes down a treat with some hot tea.

This varied meal for two came up to a reasonable RM39.96 including a pot of Pu Er tea and some mushroom lettuce rolls.

We give them a We Ate This 8/10.

Another favourite of ours alongside Bak Kut Teh is Curry Mee!

There’s all different kinds of Curry Mee around, this is the more authentic kind and of the few places in KL where you can actually get it with big cubes of blood!

It’s located in SS2 and is fairly easy to find, parking can be a problem (but then it’s SS2..).

It’s been around a fairly long time and has had some minor renovations and a new signboard – but it’s still the same place. It has a pretty simple interior.

They don’t have a huge menu – it’s basically just Curry Mee and some side dishes.

The Penang Otak Otak (RM3) is good – not too spicy and quite creamy.

The Fuk Zhao fishballs (RM4.50) are also excellent, succulent and tender and filled with minced pork! Very tasty indeed.

Of course the main reason for going there is the Curry Mee (RM5) – it’s not too thick and some might find it bland (so do whack some chilli in) and it’s packed with lightly cooked cockles and big lumps of coagulated pig’s blood.

Make sure you use the right chili though – there’s one type for the Prawn Mee and one for the Curry Mee.

Personally I have the lightweight version with no blood or cockles..

We definitely recommend this place if you are looking for some authentic Curry Mee!

They are pretty singular in what they do, and they do it well – so we give them a We Ate This 8/10.

Time and time again we tell people it’s better to have a restaurant that does a few things very well than a lot of things at a mediocre level.
