Yes we do go The Curve very often, and yes we do try new places sometimes! I have tried The Apartment long long ago when it first launched and found it not so great, but not long back I had a function there and the food was actually really good (especially the mussels!).

The staff used to have a terrible reputation for service too, but glad to say they are have improved a lot too.

So we decided to give it a try, they have a few English treats too which tickled my fancy. And well it’s fast becoming one of our favourite places in The Curve to dine.

The interior is simple, nice and clean. Somewhat reminiscent of an English kitchen. The drinks are a little pricey and they’ve stopped serving normal water, only mineral water now. They do have a good range of beers though and their juices are nice.

But well, this is what we really go there for – the chicken liver pate! Just make sure you peel the layer of wax/fat off the top first, don’t try and eat it It’s served with plenty of bread and onion marmalade.

And our favourite of all – the Mussels, all the styles are great but this is “Apartment Style” which we love, slightly sweet, spicy and very garlicy. I have to say though we’ve been there about 5-6 times and the quality of the mussels has varied from SUPERB to just ‘ok’. It’s never been bad, but they have been slightly over-cooked.

This may seem like an odd combo, but it’s quite delicious – the duck and mango salad.

The desserts are pretty good, the Pavlova is a favourite of mine – but it’s very rich. Make sure you share it.

It’s definitely worth a go, especially if you like pate and mussels served with a mountain of fresh bread. I think it’s a great place to chat, eat and share some food amongst friends.

All in all we give it a We Ate This 7/10, if they could make the cooking of the mussels more consistent and the drinks cheaper (and give free water PLEASE) it could easily be an 8/10.

*THIS RESTAURANT APPEARS TO HAVE CLOSED DOWN AS OF NOVEMBER 2010*

This is a restaurant I frequent quite often and have done for some time, it’s quite a unique place serving some proper typical Teow Chew food and a favourite of ours which is the Mee Sua Tow.

There’s a branch in SS2 near Lobsterman, that’s the first one I went to – but nowadays I tend to frequent the one in Aman Suria (or Sunway Mas depending who you ask) more often as it’s near my office and next door to the most awesome Char Siew in the world!

The interior is simple and clean.

Mee sua is a delicate noodle made from rice flour and is very brittle in uncooked form as the strands are really thin, in this form it’s cooked until it’s soft and the soup is very thick much like sharksfin soup consistency. This is their main dish on the menu, they have a variety of sides too – but of course the Mee Sua Tow is most highly recommended.

It’s packed full of goodies such as prawns, fish maw, crabsticks and much more.

It comes in at RM11 per pax, they also have a porridge option which is about the same but with rice instead of mee sua. And for the spicy food lovers they also have a Tom Yam Seafood Noodle.

They also have this fried oyster mee, which is a little more pricey at RM15 – but tasty.

They have a number of good side dishes too such as 3 taste oysters (sweet, sour and spicy), the octopus and my favourite the sweet/sour prawn.

If you’re really daring you can go for the yam/lard and ginko berry dessert known by Teow Chew people as Orn/Orh Nee.

A good meal, not too oily and packed full of goodies – I tend to get quite hungry after though so always order +1 pax on the Mee Sua Tow (for 4 people get 5 pax and so on). We give it a We Ate This 7/10.

There are other branches in SS2 (as mentioned above), SS14 Subang Jaya and Bandar Manjalara – Kepong.

Marché (pronounced Mar-shay), which means “market” in French, is a creative, colorful and innovative restaurant concept developed by the Swiss-based Mövenpick Group.

It’s something like a buffet, but it’s not eat-all-you-can style, you get a ‘passport’ which you stamp as you take food and then pay for at the end (PLEASE don’t lose the passport as it’ll cost you RM200!).

Yes we do eat at The Curve a lot, but we haven’t even covered a quarter of the eateries there, there’s just so many!

When you find a table you can ‘chop’ it with the sign board as you’ll be wondering around finding food, it’s a good idea.

There’s plenty to choose from with section for potatoes, mushrooms, fruit, pasta, salad, meat, pizza, desserts and much more!

It does have a very market feel with lots of fresh/raw ingredients around and plenty of things to take pictures of.

Plenty for the meat lovers amongst you too.

We started out with the fresh mushroom soup, it was pretty good and plenty of croutons!

And the Caesar salad, it still can’t beat Italiannies though.

We followed that with the Lamb Shank, which was ok – served with potatoe wedges which were nice.

And the stone baked pizza, which was good – heavy and the toppings and lovely chewy cheese.

We tried a couple of desserts, both of which looked much better than they tasted.

All in all it was ok and quite expensive, I think for the price you can find similar types of food (but much nicer) even in The Curve itself and definitely outside.

They are always packed though, so they must be doing something right..Perhaps we just missed out on the good dishes. They have a kind of buffet deal on Tuesdays too, well they used to, I’m not sure if they still do.

All in all we give it a We Ate This 5/10.

This is simply one of my favourite desserts! I first heard of it when they opened up in Mid Valley, there was quite a buzz about these quite costly cream puffs..You can read more here at Wiki: Beard Papa.

They came over from Japan a while back, they opened in their home country in 1999 and have been causing queues ever since then. It’s not cheap at RM3.30 per cream puff, but it is delicious! (it’s cheaper if you buy more too). This branch is in 1-Utama old wing, inside the Jusco food section.

The setup is simple and clean, the puffs are baked freshly in the store itself and the cream machine is kept in a large fridge at a certain temperature so it’s chilled, but not too cold and tasteless.

The cream puffs are freshly filled when you order to prevent them from going soggy, the default flavour is vanilla – I believe they have chocolate too but I haven’t tried that so I can’t vouch for it.

And they are garnished with a little sprinkle of icing sugar, served with a tissue if you wish to eat it immediately.

When you bite in the delicious cool creamy custard spills out, you can actually see the black bits of real vanilla in the cream.

Very refreshing after a rich meal! The combination of the super crispy outer choux pastry and the creamy cold custard inside is delicious.

I find it not too heavy and not too sweet, it’s not like donuts though – I’m quite satisfied after eating one..I don’t find myself tempted to buy a whole box.

We give it a super creamy We Ate This 8/10!

It would get a 9 if it were a little cheaper, but I can understand the price with the ingredients they use.

*THIS RESTAURANT IS NOW CLOSED*

Some of you may know La Gourmet House from when it was in Ikano Power Center at the LG floor, it moved over to The Curve and now it’s in the prime position on the street on the ground floor. They have also updated their menu along with the move and are bringing some new items.

It’s a Mediterranean style restaurant serving a variety of western influence food.

It’s pretty easy to find, the interior is nice and cosy – quite authentically European.

We started off with the Sicilian seafood bisque with stuffed fish, which was very nice! Not too rich, nice and smooth and a very well balanced taste (sometimes bisque can be too creamy, or too watery).

We also tried out the Andalucian style tiny meatballs in almond sauce with salmon pikelettes along with a stuffed aubergine with rockets, cherry tomatoes and walnuts topped with berries and lemon dressing.

The Salmon Pikelette was good, the meatball was cold though and I don’t really fancy aubergine cooked that way as it tends to be a bit soggy/oily.

If you are there on Friday or Saturday you’ll be sung to by Gani from Freedom whilst you wait for your main to arrive.

After that came the specialty Paella Luzonia with mixed seafood, vegetables and salted fish. The texture was good and there was plenty of seafood (clams, crabs, prawns etc). It wasn’t quite hot enough however.

Along with the Paella came the Shepherd’s Buglidicce, I had no idea what it was to be honest…but it turns out to be some kind of toasted cheese biscuit/pancake and it was very nice.

If you’re lucky the chef might come out and sing you a song!

They have some nice German beer too (Weihenstephan), we finished off with a brownie, which was ok and a coffee which was good.

The price is pretty average, it’s not cheap but it’s not expensive. We’d give it a worth trying We Ate This 5/10 – it’d make 6 if the portions were a little larger and their hot food was hot.

The first rule of any restaurant kitchen is make sure what is supposed to be hot is really hot and what is supposed to be cold is really cold. The rest is less important.

I do want to go back and try their dried duck pasta which is supposed to be quite famous.

Chef Loong is another of those snack/dim sum/siu loong pau joints and it’s pretty well known around SS2. Apparently Chef Loong himself actually left to start Shanghai 10 in Bangsar! I wonder where he’s gone now as Shanghai 10 sadly seems to have closed down

You should probably know by now Xiao Long Bao is one of my favourite things to eat, and this is another place to eat them! One of the better ones too. It’s quite a popular place and it’s reasonably priced and fairly convenient being placed in SS2.

There menu is decent with a good range of crunchy stuff, fried stuff and a few refreshing dishes and of course some desserts to finish off your gluttony. It’s pretty easy to find, opposite the open air mamak area (some call it umbrellas, we refer to it as Misai – our favourite gerai there).

The interior is pretty standard, aluminum tables and chairs etc..that’s not the reason I go though, of course I go for the Xiao Long Bao (RM6 for 4).

They have a new variety now too with wine, alcoholic Xiao Long Bao! Honestly speaking though it doesn’t taste much different from the original one – it’s 50 cents more at RM6.50 for 4.

Another fav is the Crispy Netting Prawn (RM4.20) – this is delicious!

The Avacado Katafi is similar, but I can’t say I’m so fond of it. But then it is more of a desert.

The cucumber dish is delightfully refreshing amongst the fried stuff.

The Char Siew Pau are not bad.

The Crispy Chee Cheong Fun is definitely worth a try!

The desserts are all worth trying, depending on what tickles your taste buds. It is a dessert house after all. Even though the food is labeled as snacks…don’t be deceived, the portions are good and it’s quite filling. It’s perfectly ok to go there for dinner. We give it a solid We Ate This 7/10!

This is one place that’s fairly well known since long ago, before all these food blogs sprouted up. It’s one place that has also managed to retain consistency and good quality through-out its’ years in business…the down-side the price has rocketed upwards and upwards reaching RM15 for a small bowl and RM17 for a large.

I think when I first tried it was about RM8.50 and RM10 for a big one.

Anyhow, they basically serve one dish – seafood noodles! It comes in three flavours – Curry, Tom Yam and plain soup. You can campur (mix) Tom Yam and Curry too if you have an iron stomach.

It’s pretty easy to find if you know SS2 and Chow Yang area.

The interior is nice and simple, heavy marble tables and open concept and plenty of tissues for wiping your sweat and curry spattered shirt.

They hae a normal range of drinks but their Soya-bean & Cincau (Michael Jackson) is known for being very kau (Strong).

Then of course the specialty! Seafood noodles, I go for curry always as I love it, very smooth and satisfying flavour packed full of seafood. You can choose from a range of noodles, I generally go for Kway Teow + Mee.

This is the plain soup variety (small bowl) also packed full of seafood goodies.

Definitely worth trying out if you haven’t, the original branch is in Segambut of course – some people say it’s better and it’s definitely dirtier, hotter and noisier. The price is definitely a touch high and although it’s very good I don’t think it’s worth quite that much, eventhough saying that we will go back again..It gets a pretty solid We Ate This 6/10.

1901 hotdogs are something that we eat quite regularly, quite a light meal for lunch and consistently good. Also now the franchise has grown you can find them easily in almost every mall big or small.

This branch we visited was in The Curve, near the footbridge from Ikano and very near to Waroeng Penyet. The places are usually quite simple, this one is a cafe style but most are just stalls with high stools and a small counter to eat.

Their tagline is food for friendship.

They used to have some wicked real lemonade too..but no more, now I stick to the Ice Lemon Tea.

They have two sizes of hotdog, regular and great.

And a few flavours, about 6 I think. This is my favourite, Chicago Beef (regular size).

Another good one is the New York Chicken (great size), the chicken can sometimes be more juicy than the beef.

The prices are pretty reasonable and service is generally fast, great for a snack or a light lunch. We recommend 1901 and give it a We Ate This 8/10.

Shihlin Night Market is a famous market in Taipei, Taiwan – there are various foods there (mostly snack types of food) that are well known.

We don’t go to Old Wing much any more so it was only recently we decided to try this small cafe style shop in 1-Utama Old Wing (near the TGV cinema) selling Taiwanese street food, it always seems busy and we’ve heard it’s good (especially the oyster mee sua!) so we checked it out.

It’s a fairly small and simple place, pretty crowded most of the time so you may have to wait for a seat. You can also pack the food to go – the XXL Chicken is VERY popular.

They only serve two drinks, soya milk and mineral water – the soy is good quality V-Soy though (RM2) (my favourite brand!).

The Handmade Oyster Mee Sua (RM5.50) is just as good as we heard it was, it’s the quintessential comfort food. Smooth delicious wheat noodles in piping hot soup with 2 pieces of succulent oysters. The contrast between the fresh oysters and hot noodles makes the dish an addictive treat.

Chopsticks aren’t given by default as you are only supposed to eat it with a spoon if you want to follow the Taiwanese way.

The XXL chicken (RM5.50) was good, and a big portion (could’ve guessed that from the name eh?) I still think Uncle Bob is better though (cheaper at RM4.50 too), perhaps I wasn’t that hungry when I ate this though.

Does anyone else find it ironic having ‘street snacks’ in a shopping mall? Anyway, it’s a decent place with a limited menu – but what they do, they do well! Definitely worth a bowl of Oyster Mee Sua and a slab of chicken. It could definitely be a little more spacious and comfortable tho, it’s a little pricey for the hawker style seating.

It doesn’t make you feel like hanging around. Maybe we can class it as street snack comforts with shopping mall prices?

It gets a tasty and satisfying We Ate This 6/10 – they should reduce the price though, or get out of the mall and cut the overhead (and more space!).

*THIS RESTAURANT APPEARS TO HAVE CLOSED DOWN AS OF APRIL 2008*

Fasta Pasta is a chain that came over from Australia shortly after Ikano opened a few years ago. It was pretty popular when it first opened, the price are a little high for most people and it has declined in popularity.

It’s located near Ace Hardware on the ground floor of Ikano opposite Starbucks.

They give you free bread to start, with proper Lurpak butter!

It’s nice with a sprinkle of chili flakes and parmesan cheese.

The decor is pretty simple, wood and tiles – clean lines.

The pasta comes in two sizes – Asian and Aussie – Asian for those with smaller appetites and the Aussie portion is good for sharing, the pasta ranges from about RM18-RM27. I do like their ravioli!

The prawn sambal risotto is rather nice too but quite expensive for a small portion (RM28) It is very rich though, good texture and flavour..heavy and filling!

Anywhere else that has good risotto? Another favourite is the Rotelle Fantasia with ham and mushrooms (RM21 for Aussie size). Very nice combination, used to be creamier..not so great now.

I find their drinks over-priced so I just tend to stick to ice water. I’ve noticed the service has gotten a lot worse too, it used to be much better. I guess we will go back, but it’s not so much of an exciting prospect as when they first opened.

All in all they deserve a We Ate This 5/10.
