Although some countries have claimed it as theirs..

We’re great fans of Bak Kut Teh and especially the other dishes served with it like the braised pork knuckles, vinegar pork knuckles, poli sang choi, tau fu pok, yau char gwai and siu yuk!

Mungo Jerry is one of them more famous BKT establishments and has been around for a long time, it’s also very accessible if you are in KL city (Just head down to Jalan Raja Laut) and it’s open late at night for that post clubbing supper. There’s also one in SS2 – but I can’t vouch for that one as I’ve never been there.

There’re two types of rice you can order, normal white rice or the special onion rice. I always go for the onion rice, it’s delicious with BKT and it’s not too oily.

Of course you have the main Bak Kut Teh – there are various types and sizes and I usually go for lean meat. The Bak Kut Teh isn’t the best in town definitely – but it is pretty good.

And all the normal side dishes, get some Tau Fu Pok and Yau Char Gwai.

And I find Poli Sang Choi goes very well with BKT as well as Claypot Rice.

And my personal favourite – especially at Mungo Jerry the Braised Pork (I always get lean too). It’s really good and I specifically go to Mungo Jerry just to eat this.

They have some good fatty, crispy Siu Yuk too – so do get a plate of that too.

Definitely a place to check out after some drinks or on a cold rainy night. The prices are reasonable, it’s not too hard to find parking and the service is ok.

We’d give it an overall We Ate This 7/10.
