Restoran Yu Ai - Segambut Seafood Noodles - Chow Yang, SS2
April 24, 2008 – 4:25 pm - 1,371 viewsThis is one place that’s fairly well known since long ago, before all these food blogs sprouted up. It’s one place that has also managed to retain consistency and good quality through-out its’ years in business…the down-side the price has rocketed upwards and upwards reaching RM15 for a small bowl and RM17 for a large.
I think when I first tried it was about RM8.50 and RM10 for a big one.
Anyhow, they basically serve one dish - seafood noodles! It comes in three flavours - Curry, Tom Yam and plain soup. You can campur (mix) Tom Yam and Curry too if you have an iron stomach.
It’s pretty easy to find if you know SS2 and Chow Yang area.

The interior is nice and simple, heavy marble tables and open concept and plenty of tissues for wiping your sweat and curry spattered shirt.

They hae a normal range of drinks but their Soya-bean & Cincau (Michael Jackson) is known for being very kau (Strong).

Then of course the specialty! Seafood noodles, I go for curry always as I love it, very smooth and satisfying flavour packed full of seafood. You can choose from a range of noodles, I generally go for Kway Teow + Mee.

This is the plain soup variety (small bowl) also packed full of seafood goodies.

Definitely worth trying out if you haven’t, the original branch is in Segambut of course - some people say it’s better and it’s definitely dirtier, hotter and noisier. The price is definitely a touch high and although it’s very good I don’t think it’s worth quite that much, eventhough saying that we will go back again..It gets a pretty solid We Ate This 6/10.

The original’s definitely better. Its quite near my new place. The road from Kepong to that place is pretty near.

I love their noodles but I think I won’t be going there in a bit. It’s definitely over-priced by today’s standard though it is good. A family of four will have to spend at least RM60 excluding drinks. If they continue with their price increases, I think their customers will reduce over time.

is it now 17rm for a big bowl??? increase price again ar..oh shit..

they dont make them like they used to anymore. when it was below RM10, the meal is well worth it.
with the price ballooning to this, nah…its just not worth it.
you are just paying to see the bugger laugh all the way to the bank.

I’ve tried their seafood few rounds for the past 5 years, I must say the last time I was there, I was disappointed with the taste of the soup.
I don’t think I’ll be having seafood noodle from Yu Ai anytime soon, increased of price and not as expected quality, not worth the ringgit.

I just went to that restaurant last week. Came out with a big hole in my wallet. The curry was okay though. The cincau is definitely a must have.

the curry soup is a bit too sweet. think they add in loads of sugar in the curry. definetly not the natural sweetness from the seafood..

Definitely would try it..
if i am paying like $30 for a plate of fried beef horfun here.. which doesn’t even look as appetizing as this.

Eaten here once quite a long time ago during the internet cafe times. Didn’t have internet at home then and didn’t know what a blog was. Can’t remember what we ate but it was very nice. Used to be walking around that area a lot but nowadays don’t get the chance to anymore.

The original is near my place but I only tried it twice. I think they put quite a lot of MSG. Very thirsty after I ate it.

Dr. Tan: Hmm will have to try it out some day.
pablopabla: Yah I agree, it’s getting to be rather expensive.
lotsofcravings: Yah tighten your belts.
kevin: That’s why he has a Lotus I guess.
jessbabe: I agree, not really worth it any more, when it was RM10-12 it was great.
Chan Kelwin: I think it’s not as good as it used to be.
moniqus: I don’t really find it sweet and I’m quite sensitive to sugar.
Crunch Rex: Haha yeah it’s cheap for you.
James: Try it out if you can afford it.
Precious Pea: Will have to try the original some day see if there’s any difference.
Simon Seow: Maybe it’s just salty.
