Waroeng Penyet - Indonesian Flattened Chicken - The Curve
January 24, 2008 – 8:09 pm - 1,936 viewsAnother place at The Curve to eat if you are running out of ideas!
A pretty new joint, I’ve heard a few people mention it recently - the famous Indonesian flattened chicken known as Ayam Penyet. It’s located on the 1st floor of the curve towards the bridge to Ikano (Near 1901). I think it opened in Sunway first from what I’ve heard.

Waroeng means a traditional hut in Indonesia that serve ranges choices of traditional authentic food with a reasonable price (unlike fine dining restaurants) and the word penyet means flattened. It’s not exactly a hut, and the chicken isn’t very flat - but hey we aren’t the literal police.
The menu isn’t huge - but has a bit of variety. There’s all kinds of ‘Penyet’ other than the famous chicken including beef, pomfret, prawns, catfish, bakso and wings. The sambal is pretty awesome, so don’t miss that.
The star of the show of course is the Ayam Penyet (RM7.90), with it’s special crispy topping. It’s smooth juicy chicken with a crispy outside.

It comes with some fried tempe and fried tofu you can order rice or crackers on the side - make sure whack plenty of sambal, apparently the belacan is imported!

The bakso (RM6.90) is good, soft and not too chewy - but the balls are a little small. But then I have had King Bakso in Jakarta!

The soto (RM6.90) was pretty good but slightly bland, could have been a little more salty.

I’ll be going back to have some more chicken and try some of the other dishes soon!
Definitely worth a try and worth going for the Ayam Penyet with oodles of sambal, we give it a We Ate This 7/10.

Nice review and nice pictures. Just came to remember that it is started here in Singapore sometimes back. But they are located far away from the CBD, thus they might get popularity amongst residence nearby or employees of few companies and industries nearby.

I thought the chicken was great, but I’d give the rest a pass.

surfnux: Yah I think it was in Singapore first before it came over here.
thatjames: Agree, the chicken is definitely the star, the rest can be improved.
Yiling: No worries and thanks for the compliments
I aimed to create a simple and clean layout to focus on the food, not clutter.
crunchasaurus rex: Yup it’s good value and fast, the portions are small though - but that’s good if you like variety to share.
lotsofcravings: Yah I’ll be trying out various other places there too, watch this space!
Bernsy: Haven’t tried the fish yet, I like the place though it’s bright and clean and cheerful.

I prefer the grilled than the fried. Goes really well with the kicap! Yumzz!

Woouu, good picture, I’m soo hungry … I will searching in Indonesia. I always laughing about name …”ayam penyet”
about bakso (meatball), di Indonesia, bakso yang super besar (the bigger) namanya bakso tenis. Ada ukuran yang lebih kecil dari bakso yang diatas.
